A vibrant ceremony was held at the GTHI hotel school to mark the official launch of 'The Namie Foundation,' a newly established organization dedicated to promoting education in The Gambia. The foundation's core mission is to mobilize resources and people to provide high-quality and innovative professional learning opportunities for educators, from Early Childhood Development to Grade Twelve and beyond.

At the heart of 'The Namie Foundation' lies a commitment to creating educational opportunities and support for learners through sponsorship and exchange programs between educators in The Gambia and their counterparts in the United States of America.

Speaking at the event, Fatou Susso Jobarteh, the Chief Operating Officer of The Namie Foundation, expressed her enthusiasm for the foundation's role in contributing to national development. She explained that the word 'Namie' translates to blessings and contribution, underscoring the foundation's dedication to making a positive impact on society.

Fatou Susso Jobarteh drew inspiration from her grandmother's legacy, who was instrumental in bridging gaps and educating not only her family but the entire community through the oral tradition of the griots. She shared her personal journey of being unable to pursue further education like her brother, but the foundation now motivates her to continue her education even as an adult. Moreover, she aspires to inspire young girls to embrace education and unlock their full potential.

Honored guest, Lawyer Ousainou A.N.M. Darboe, former Vice President of The Gambia and leader of the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP), spoke about the foundation's alignment with the virtuous principles upheld by the late Namie. He emphasized her dedication to fostering strong relationships among people, fostering a sense of activism in society.

Alpha Bah, Director of Quality Assurance from the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE), commended the foundation's timely establishment, coinciding with the ongoing review of the education policy. He emphasized the importance of partnerships, both local and international, in enhancing educational endeavors.

Alhassan Susso, chairman of The Namie Foundation, shed light on the foundation's vision to reposition The Gambia's education system. He highlighted that building on the work of previous generations is crucial to progress, and education is the key to transforming society positively.

The Namie Foundation is committed to ensuring students succeed not only academically but also as productive and intelligent individuals contributing to society. By empowering educators and learners alike, the foundation aims to elevate the overall quality of education in The Gambia and promote long-term national development.

As the foundation embarks on its journey, it seeks to secure partnerships with domestic and international stakeholders to strengthen its impact. Through collaborative efforts, 'The Namie Foundation' envisions a brighter future for education in The Gambia, where every learner has the opportunity to reach their full potential and contribute positively to society.
